Description
Setting:
St. John’s Family Medicine Residency, is a part of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. It is a 6-6-6 residency (18 total residents) in St. Paul, MN. Clinicians practice at Fairview Phalen Village Clinic in East St. Paul and provide hospital care at St. John’s Hospital in suburban St. Paul. The clinic serves a predominantly urban, Southeast Asian refugee population and is seeing growth in its population of East African refugees. The residency has physician faculty with interests in women’s health, sports medicine, geriatrics, adolescent care, hospital medicine, gender affirming care, and office-based procedures. The interdisciplinary team includes pharmacy, behavioral health, social work, triage nursing, and care coordination.
Duties:
This position is primarily patient care and clinical teaching. Approximately 40% of duties are conventional psychotherapy, 40% of duties include integrated behavioral healthcare and precepting of family medicine residents.
Additional teaching opportunities: assist with family medicine resident didactics and second-year residents’ behavioral medicine rotation, implement resident wellness curriculum, and complete resident video reviews and shadowing (in-patient and outpatient experiences). Medical students may also occasionally shadow the intern.
Additional personal training experiences: work alongside providers in Pharmacy, Social Work/Care coordination, inpatient medicine, Psychiatry. Day-long courses in sexual medicine, community health, and primary care psychiatry. Attend resident didactics relevant to intern training. The intern also creates a 1 month elective rotation of their choice for in depth study in a specific topic. Supervision is provided by a Minnesota State Approved Supervisor and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.
